Vocális will sing at Southwark Cathedral (believed to be the oldest cathedral church building in London), the chapel of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, and the Lady Chapel at Ely Cathedral. This summer Vocális will represent the United States at the Cambridge Summer Music Festival in England. Burritt established Vocális in 2002 with 20 singers who are music educators, church musicians, choral music devotees and other talented professionals with a passion for choral music performance. By day, he teaches music at Lewiston-Porter Central Schools where he conducts four choral groups. He has also appeared with the Indianapolis and Oregon symphonies, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. While Vocális regularly collaborates with other musicians and groups, this opportunity to welcome a gifted contemporary composer to participate is very special. The renowned composer will be in residence to coach and inspire the choirs. The performance year ends in June with a unique collaboration: Vocális will be joined by string orchestra and the Hamburg High School Concert Choir in a performance of the music of Ola Gjeilo. In March, the performance welcomes the first days of spring with a vibrant choral kaleidoscope, featuring multi-culturally diverse compositions. The December concert at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum is a musical feast of sacred and secular selections, with an extended intermission to enjoy warm mulled beverages and festive treats. This season begins in October, with an evening of romantic choral music, including works from Brahms, Grieg and Bruckner. The combination of music and atmosphere is beguiling. Vocális performs in architecturally interesting and historic spaces throughout Western New York.
